How to write a Resume

If you are looking for how to write a resume, here are some general guidelines. Some of the most important guidelines for how to write a resume are to keep it straightforward, stick to the facts and focus on your accomplishments.

Stick to the facts. Make sure you talk about things that you have actually done at your past places of employment or what classes you took in college or degree you obtained. You can view some of our sample resumes to get an idea of layout and formats.

You'll see our resume templates are in simple formats with bullet points to put in specific statements. You do not need to write in paragraphs, although it is okay to write some paragraphs such as your objective. Keep paragraphs for cover letters and let your resume talk about you in short, factual statements.

When you think about how to write a resume make sure to focus on your accomplishments. You do not need to describe every single thing that you did at your jobs or in school. What you want to do is to focus on things you accomplished. For example, if you were a salesman do not say simply "I sold software to 15 different customers" but rather "I sold $10,000,000.00 in newly developed software surpassing 90% of the other sales team members in my first year."
